Actor Emily Ellet has been named the 2017 MetroStar champion.

The competition was produced at New York’s Metropolitan Room by Met Room owner Bernie Furshpan, technical director Jean-Pierre Perreaux, booking manager and cabaret producer Joseph Macchia, MAC Award winner Tom Gamblin, and Beck Lee.

The search began July 10 and concluded August 21, when Ellet was crowned the winner out of 51 competitors. Open to solo singers and vocal duos of all ages, backgrounds, and styles who have not played a major engagement at the Metropolitan Room, Anthony Alfaro (The View UpStairs) and Joan Crowe were runners-up. Jackie Mate won the Audience Favorite Award, and Evan Dolan won the Best New Artist Award.

Past winners include Anne Steele, Liz Lark Brown, T. Oliver Reid, Marissa Mulder, Billie Roe, Lauren Stanford, Kristoffer Lowe, Minda Larsen, and David Baida (On Your Feet!).

Hosted by Gamblin, Jeff Cubeta and Tracy Stark provided music direction, and Lina Koutrakos served as MetroStar’s resident mentor, offering performance-improving tips to the competitors.

The Nightlife, MAC, and Bistro Award-winning Metropolitan Room, located at 34 West 22nd Street, celebrated its 11th anniversary in May. For reservations call (212) 206-0440 or visit MetropolitanRoom.com
