News 1969 "Sweet Charity" Screened Free by Old Globe for Upcoming Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life The Old Globe will present a free screening of the 1969 musical "Sweet Charity" featuring stage legend Chita Rivera in conjunction with its upcoming Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life.

The 7 PM screening will Sept. 19 will take place at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre. Admission is free with seats available on a first-come, first-served basis.

An "Insights Seminar," in which the show’s creative team will take part in a discussion of the play, takes place at 6 PM prior to the screening.  Tickets ($5 for adults, $2 for teachers and students) for the Seminar are available at the Globe Ticket Office at (619) 23-GLOBE.

Rivera is featured in the supporting role of Nickie in "Sweet Charity," with Shirley MacLaine, John McMartin, Sammy Davis Jr., and more in the story of a dancer who falls for an unlikely young man who romances her away from her lifestyle.  

Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life — with a book by Terrence McNally and direction by Graciela Daniele and new songs by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty —  will debut at The Old Globe Sept. 10-Nov. 6 before heading to Broadway's Schoenfeld Theatre, where it begin previews Nov. 23 and will officially open Dec. 11.
