Now in its 53rd season, the Theatre World Awards correspond to the Theatre World volumes that capture the Broadway/Off-Broadway season in facts and pictures. According to editor-in-chief John Willis, the next volume is due out by the end of May. "We're two years behind," he told Playbill On-Line," so the next volume out is 1994-95." The volume is currently published by Applause Books. Clive Barnes (Post), Peter Filichia (Playbill On-Line, Newark Star Ledger), Michael Sommers (Newhouse newspapers, Newark Star Ledger), Frank Scheck (Christian Science Monitor), Douglas Watt (Daily News) and John Willis served as judges for the Awards. They chose the names from a list of more than 150 compiled by Willis.

Asked what he considered the season's most promising aspect, Willis said, "The increased activity; the largest number of openings we've had in several years. It's kept me busy."

The Theatre World Awards will be given out May 29 at Broadway's Roundabout Theatre in an invitation-only ceremony.
