Two New York radio stations will partner with the Tony-winning Broadway musical The Color Purple for a special promotion the evening of June 27 celebrating Black Music Month.

Listeners to WBLS and WLIB have the chance to win a spot at an intimate live performance and Q&A session with Tony and Grammy Award-winning singer Heather Headley, who is currently starring in the show as Shug Avery. The private event will commence with a special talk-back segment with members of the musical’s cast.

WBLS 107.5 FM plays R&B, and 1190 WLIB AM plays praise and inspirational music. Listeners are invited to tune to Lenny Green on WBLS at 9 PM ET and Bishop Hezekiah Walker on WLIB at 3 PM ET all week long for a chance to win a seat at this live broadcast event. Green and WLIB’s Erica Campbell will join the winners at the event. The interview portion will be broadcast live on WBLS from 7 to 9 PM June 27.

“We’re excited to host this event with Broadway’s Tony Award-winning musical The Color Purple to celebrate Black Music Month,” said Skip Dillard, Program Director of WBLS 107.5. “WBLS is historically the premier station serving African-Americans, so it only makes sense that we recognize and celebrate our music and heritage. Our listeners are huge fans of The Color Purple, so having Heather Headley and the cast join us is truly an honor.”
