Greenblatt has performed the show over 750 times in theatres across the globe. 2 Pianos 4 Hands is a two-man theatrical production featuring "24 musical pieces, over a dozen different characters and zero costume changes—adding up to tons of energy and talent." The music-filled comedy tells the story of two Canadian boys who dream of concert piano stardom and share their journey through "grueling practices and nail-biting competitions."
The play requires actors that are classically trained pianists, making casting for the semi-autobiographical roles difficult for Greenblatt and his co-creator/co-star Ted Dykstra. Two of the writers' favorite actors in the roles — Richard Carsey and Tom Frey — will appear in the Lowell, MA, staging.
Carsey has played the role of Richard over 100 times, and Frey has taken the stage as Ted over 300 times in such venues as Dallas Theater Center, Actor's Theatre of Louisville, Laguna Playhouse, Hartford Stage and elsewhere.
