News 29th Annual Bistro Awards, Featuring Ben Vereen and Stephen Schwartz, Held March 4 The 29th annual Bistro Awards, honoring excellence in New York cabaret, jazz and comedy and featuring Oscar, Tony, Grammy and Golden Globe-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Wicked) as a presenter, are held March 4.

The awards, which are presented at the Gotham Comedy Club, honor Ben Vereen, Anita Gillette and Robert Creighton, among others.

Bistro and MAC Award winner Jeff Harner emcees the 6:30 PM event that is directed by Shellen Lubin. Producer Sherry Eaker hosts the evening that features performances from the Bistro Award-winning artists.

Vereen (Pippin, Jesus Christ Superstar) is the recipient of the Bob Harrington Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Schwartz. 

Jazz musician and Grammy Award winner Paquito d'Rivera will present the honor for Outstanding Programming to Amy Niles, accepting on behalf of the nonprofit radio station WBGO.

The Bistro Award was established by Bob Harrington in 1985; this year marks the seventh year at Gotham Comedy Club.
