News 3 Steinbeck Books Adapted To Stage, May 2 in L.A. LOS ANGELES -- Doc of Cannery Row, an adaptation of three of John Steinbeck's books -- Cannery Row, Sweet Thursday and Sea of Cortez will open May 2 at the Hudson Backstage Theatre for a five-week run.

LOS ANGELES -- Doc of Cannery Row, an adaptation of three of John Steinbeck's books -- Cannery Row, Sweet Thursday and Sea of Cortez will open May 2 at the Hudson Backstage Theatre for a five-week run.

Written by Bruce D. Clayton, Doc of Cannery Row received its world premiere on Monterey's legendary Cannery Row in June 1970. Clayton was granted exclusive permission by the Steinbeck estate to adapt the three books for the stage.

Presented by The Everybody Theatre in association with Doug Clayton (who also directs) and Janel Wilson, the play features Jesus Arreola, Jason Beeber, Jarod Cameron, Efren Cornejo Jr., Emily Bartel, Jara Jones, Stacy Jorgensen, David Lucky, Casey Mendell, Kathie Moore, Kelda Nelson, Danielle Pia, Scott Rose, Sacha Sacket and Melissa Zelada.

The schedule is Thurs.-Sat. at 8 PM; Sun. at 3 PM. Tickets are $12-$15 and can be ordered by calling (888) 566-8499. The Hudson Theatre is located at 6539 Santa Monica Blvd. Valet parking is available.
