The last show of the Broadway season officially opened April 27, so May is the perfect month to catch your favorite performers in smaller venues. See who is on tap in New York’s most intimate performance spaces:
May 9–20 at Café Carlyle
The legendary Chita Rivera returns to the Carlyle, where she played a highly-lauded sold out engagement last April. The two-time Tony winner—with a total of ten nominations, thus far—will be backed by musical director Michael Croiter and trio.
May 9–22 at Feinstein’s/ 54 Below
Salonga returns with a two-week encore of what was one of last year’s most exciting cabaret acts. The star of Allegiance and the singing voice of two Disney princesses (in Aladdin and Mulan), Salonga remains best known as the Tony Award–winning star of the original Miss Saigon.
The Golden Apple
May 10–14 at City Center Encores!
New York musical theatre fans have been waiting 63 years—literally—for the chance to hear Jerome Moross and John Latouche’s 1954 musical in full glory with full orchestra. The Golden Apple is one of a kind, and not to be missed.
Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley Broadway & Beyond
May 29–June 4 at Feinstein’s/54 Below
One of Broadway’s favorite musical comedy couples, Mazzie and Danieley return with the New York premiere of their new act. Included will be songs from their shows Ragtime, Passion, The Full Monty, Curtains, and more.
Rivera, Mazzie, and Danieley have come aboard as special guest performers on Playbill’s Broadway on the High Seas cruises. Playbill’s inaugural river cruise along the Rhône River in May 2017 is sold out, but cabins are available for the Rhine River cruise in August 2017, featuring Seth Rudetsky, Andréa Burns, Faith Prince, Terrence Mann, Charlotte d’Amboise, and Santino Fontana. Playbill Travel is now also booking Broadway on the Danube River for November 2017, with celebrity guests to be announced. Visit PlaybillTravel.com for booking and information.
