News 92YTribeca Will Spotlight Broadway Musical Theatre and The Hammersteins 92YTribeca will offer two Broadway-themed events in the coming weeks.

"Showtime: Spotlight on Broadway Musical Theater" will be presented Feb. 1 at noon, while "The Hammersteins" is scheduled for March 29 at noon.

"Showtime: Spotlight on Broadway Musical Theater"
"Learn how bigger-than-life personalities like Lillian Russell, Agnes de Mille, Michael Bennett and Stephen Sondheim sparked and sustained a nation’s love affair with the Great White Way. Hear the dazzling history of Broadway musical theater from the days of minstrel shows and operettas through the golden age of Oklahoma! to ground-breaking contemporary works like A Chorus Line and Rent. Larry Stempel is an associate professor of music at Fordham University and author of the recently released 'Showtime: The History of Broadway Musical Theater.'"

"Drawing heavily on rich family archives, including photographs, theater blueprints, letters, programs and patents, Oscar Andrew Hammerstein III - the grandson of Oscar Hammerstein - shows how his immigrant grandfather built New York’s most majestic opera house, turned Times Square into the theater capital of the world and became the most successful lyricist of all time. Hammerstein III is an adjunct professor at Columbia University and the family historian."
