"Behind the Music-al: Old Myths, New Twists" will be held May 11. The event features contemporary composers Ryan Scott Oliver, Shaina Taub and Ewalt & Walker and will be moderated by Lisa Lambert, Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning composer of The Drowsy Chaperone.
The event, which will begin at 7 PM, will explore "how the next generation of musical theater composers is finding inspiration in the oldest of tales," according to press notes. "How are new writers taking myths and fables and turning them into dynamic, relevant musicals? Can contemporary music play a role in telling an ancient story?" Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
"Billy Elliot: Songs and Talk-Back with the Cast" will be held May 24. Members of the cast of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Billy Elliot will, press notes state, "talk about what it’s like to bring to life the story of a young man who stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class, discovering a surprising talent that changes his life forever." The event will begin at 12 PM and tickets are $16.
