Lopez, Variety reports, has landed the job as the sole co-host of the weekday edition of TV's "Extra." He succeeds current co-hosts Dayna Devon and Mark McGrath. Devon will become a correspondent for the entertainment news show, while McGrath plans to return to his music career, according to the industry paper.

The versatile Lopez, whose resume boasts numerous acting and hosting duties, will kick off the new season of "Extra" beginning Sept. 15. The performer was a former weekend co-host of the program.

"Extra" senior executive producer Lisa Gregorish-Dempsey told Variety, "He will be a fresh and dynamic presence, and we can't wait for him to assume his new role."

Theresa Coffino is the executive producer of "Extra," which is produced by Time Telepictures Productions. The syndicated television program airs in more than 95 percent of the country.

Lopez is well known for his role on "Saved By the Bell" as well as appearances on "Dancing with the Stars" and "America's Best Dance Crew." He currently plays Zach in Broadway's A Chorus Line.
