A spokesperson for Disney's Broadway musicals confirmed that Morrison, who plays heartthrob Link Larkin in the 2003 Tony Award-winning musical Hairspray, will play the title role in the Tarzan reading. No other casting information was available.

At the 2003 Tony nominees press reception, Flower Drum Song's David Henry Hwang spoke about the upcoming reading, which is based on the acclaimed animated 1999 film of the same name. Said Hwang, "Phil Collins is writing some more songs, and Bob Crowley is designing and directing."

Matthew Morrison starred on Broadway in Footloose and The Rocky Horror Show, and he also took part in the workshops for Starmites and Dirty Dancing. The young actor has been seen on the small screen in "Sex and the City" and “The Late Show with David Letterman" and is featured in the film, "Marci X."
