SEATTLE -- Local performer/composer writer C.R. Lewis has announced the world premiere of Hunchback, based on Victor Hugo'sThe Hunchback of Notre Dame will take place in Seattle at The King Cat Theatre, Oct. 20-Nov. 8, 1998.

Lewis began her career as a singer/songwriter in Memphis, Tennessee. She is a three time "Star Search" winner, and has collaborated on music with such greats as Tina Turner and Michael Bolton, and has recorded numerous songs for television and film. She began writing Hunchback in 1990, and completed it in 1993 after relocating to Seattle from Los Angeles.

This new rock musical version sticks more closely to the Hugo original than the recent Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz animated film for Disney, which is itself in the works as a stage presentation. Lewis' score includes twenty original songs, from lush ballads to bluesy barrel house to soulful R&B, re-telling the tale of Quasimodo, Esmeralda and Frodo.

Lewis will also direct ,Hunchback, and she has assembled a production team which includes musical director Tim Kellock, choreographer Mark J. Kane, scenic designer Bill Forrester, lighting designer Jay Strevey and costume designer Rose Pederson. Casting will be finalized in June.

Tickets for Hunchback will go on sale in June. For more ticket information call (206) 516-4125. By David-Edward Hughes
