News A Raisin in the Sun, with Hawkins, Wesley and Henry, Begins LATW Run Nov. 17 Corey Antonio Hawkins, Rutina Wesley and Deidrie Henry star in the L.A. Theatre Works production of Lorraine Hansberry's Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning classic A Raisin in the Sun, which begins performances Nov. 17.

Obie Award-winning director Lou Bellamy stages the LATW production that is scheduled to run through Nov. 21 at the Skirball Center. Bellamy previously staged Raisin in the Sun for a mini-tour that played the Penumbra Theatre in St. Paul, as well as the Arizona Theatre Company and the Cleveland Play House during the 2008-2009 season.

Hawkins stars as Walter Younger, with Henry as Ruth Younger, Wesley as Beneatha Younger, Judyann Elder as Lena Younger, James Gleason as Karl Lindner, Noah Gray-Cabey as Travis Younger, Terrell Tilford as George Murchison and Mirron Willis as Joseph Asagai/Bobo.

Here's how LATW describes the work: "Living in a tenement apartment on the South Side of Chicago in the 1950s, the Younger family awaits an insurance payout that could make its dreams of a better life come true - but each member of the family has his or her own idea of how to use the money. The title of the play is inspired by a line in the poem 'Harlem: A Dream Deferred' by Langston Hughes."

All LATW productions are recorded and broadcast on LATW's nationally syndicated radio theatre series, "The Play's the Thing."

For tickets to any of "The Play's the Thing" productions at the Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Boulevard, call the L.A. Theatre Works box office at (310) 827-0889. For more information visit latw.org.
