The Mayor, ABC’s new political series that is executive-produced by Tony Award-winning Hamilton star Daveed Diggs, will not return as scheduled on January 9. ABC has pulled the plug on the series mid-season after it struggled to find a primetime audience, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show about a young hip-hop artist who runs for local office in a stunt to generate buzz for his music career—and unexpectedly wins the election—premiered October 3, 2017. Seven episodes of the original 13-episode order have aired so far.

The cast features Brandon Michael Hall, Lea Michele, Bernard David Jones, Marcel Spears, Yvette Nicole Brown, and David Spade.

The creators have the option of shopping the series elsewhere. Hulu has stacking rights to the series.
