News Adam Gopnik and David Shire Collaborating on Table Musical The new musical Table, penned by New Yorker contributor Adam Gopnik and Academy Award winner David Shire, will receive a January reading under the wings of the Long Wharf Theatre.

A representative for the New Haven, CT-based theatre company confirmed to Playbill.com that a January workshop will take place with Long Wharf artistic director Gordon Edelstein at the helm.

Inspired by Gopnik's 2011 book "The Table Comes First: Family, France, and the Meaning of Food," the new musical has book and lyrics by Gopnik, with lyrics and music by Shire (Baby, Closer Than Ever).

The Long Wharf hopes to stage Table in a future season.
