Awards Adam Kantor, Andrea Burns Among Broadway Talent to Mentor 2017 Jimmy Award Nominees Broadway professionals will coach young performers from across the country.

The National High School Musical Theatre Awards have announced the six Broadway industry professionals who will serve as mentors for 74 young students competing in the ninth annual Jimmy Awards, which will be presented June 26 at the Minskoff Theatre.

This year’s mentors are actors Andrea Burns (On Your Feet!), Tony Award nominee Randy Graff (Les Misérables), Adam Kantor (The Last Five Years), Tony nominee Michael McElroy (Big River), two-time Tony nominee Howard McGillin (The Phantom of the Opera), and director Schele Kleinberger (Motown).

Students have the opportunity to work with this year’s mentors during a ten-day professional training intensive with NYU Tisch School of the Arts’ New Studio in preparation for the evening that features ensemble and solo performances.

The National High School Musical Theatre Awards, otherwise known as the Jimmy Awards, recognize excellence in high school musical theatre. Tony Award-winning Dear Evan Hansen star Ben Platt will host the 2017 ceremony.

During the ceremony, Brendan Jennings (Burbank, CA) and Larry Robinson (Monroe, NC) will receive the inaugural Inspiring Teacher Award for the encouragement and inspiration that led their students to win the 2016 Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actress and Best Performance by an Actor.
