Described as a new comedy, with some music, by Adam Long, it is stated in press materials that "the producers of the show wish to make it absolutely clear that the show contains no music by Stephen Sondheim and is not endorsed by Stephen Sondheim or anyone who knows him."
The show tells the story of Satan, the multi-talented, award-winning singer/dancer/actor who came to Earth in the early 1960s because he was very excited about what was happening in the world of musical theatre. It is a chronicle of Satan's desperate attempt to secure the rights to Sondheim's music for a one-night musical extravaganza at the London Palladium. With the help of his New York manager, Robert Schifrin, Satan attempts to sing, dance and schmooze his way into Sondheim's heart - a difficult task, as Sondheim is skeptical of having his name associated with Satan.
Long will play Satan opposite Mark Caven as Robert Schifrin.
In addition to The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), Long's other stage shows include Dickens Unplugged (Comedy Theatre, London), The Complete History of America (abridged) (Criterion Theatre, London) and Deconstructing Albert (The Crucible Theatre, Sheffield).
