With direction by Maltby and music direction by Kevin Stites, the evening (first presented Dec. 2) reunites original cast members Loni Ackerman (Cats, Evita), Margery Cohen (Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill) and George Lee Andrews (The Phantom of the Opera). "The excitement of young love and the confusion of growing up (or is it the other way around?) are explored in Starting Here, Starting Now," according to press notes. "Using songs from their various early musicals (produced or otherwise), from tender ballads to hysterical husband-hunting laments, from wry comments on trendy marriages to ecstatic shouting-from-the-rooftop celebration, Starting Here, Starting Now [is] a bold journey through the maze of relationships." The production debuted in 1976 at Manhattan Theatre Club before transferring to Barbarann Theater Restaurant followed by a Grammy nomination for the original cast album.
