Written and performed by Mark Lundholm, Addicted will have played 44 previews and 65 regular performances. It began previews at Off Broadway's Zipper Theatre Nov. 7, 2003, and officially opened Dec. 14. The show, according to production notes, is a one-man odyssey through "childhood, adolescence, addiction, fatherhood, homelessness, rehab and a successful stand-up comedy career." Lundholm, who was a resident in a halfway house in 1988, began his journey by poking fun at his own life. Since that time, he has written and performed in three one-man shows as well as a Showtime comedy special. Bob Balaban, who directed the play, recently said, "I've never heard anyone expose their life as a comedy routine like this, so honest and moving. . . . The show is about overcoming obstacles."

Presented by Clear Channel Entertainment, the creative team for Addicted also featured Walt Spangler (set design), Paul Miller (lighting design) and Randy Hansen and Duncan Edwards (sound design). Addicted played limited engagements throughout the country before arriving Off-Broadway. Tour stops included Miami's Coconut Grove Playhouse, Chicago's Royal George Theatre Center, Denver's Ricketson Theater and Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival.
