Duet! A Romantic Fable, the Adobe Theatre Company creation which opened last fall at Off-Off-Broadway's Ohio Theatre, will get a new lease on life when it reopens Oct. 6 at the Actors' Playhouse in Greenwich Village. The production will be the first in a season which will see Adobe take up residence in the Seventh Avenue South Theatre.
A kitschy, stylized and romantic love story, Duet! opened to enthusiastic reviews and, along with their serial Larry and the Werewolf, Notions in Motion and The Handless Maiden, helped put the company on the map.
Expected to repeat their roles in Duet! are leads Quinn Purcell and Gregory Jackson, alongside Frank Ensengberger, Derin Basden, Chris Klimkoski, Henry Caplan, Kathryn Langwell and Beau Ruland. The play was written by Jackson and Purcell and will be co-directed by Jackson, Purcell and Jeremy Dobrish.
Set design will be by Stephen Capone; sound by Chris Todd; lighting by Paul Ziemer; and costumes by Daryl Stone. Michael Garin wrote the original song used in the show.
The show combines elements of vaudeville, silent film, nostalgic kitsch and puppetry. Adobe publicist and actress Kathryn Langwell, who has a small role in Duet!, describes Duet! as "a 1950s take on old movies and old values, a crazy fantasy land of the 1990s."
