Africa My Beautiful Brings Unique Stories Off-Broadway | Playbill

News Africa My Beautiful Brings Unique Stories Off-Broadway South African-born Olivier and Obie Award winner Thuli Dumakude and Tanyaradzwa Tawenga, "a suburban kid from Zimbabwe," will bring Africa My Beautiful to the Playroom Theater stage later this month for a limited Off-Broadway engagement.

Performances will begin Aug. 31 and run through Sept. 30. In Africa My Beautiful, two African women interweave storytelling, personal memories and contemporary, traditional and classical music, capturing the country's complex history and teaching one another about their different worlds.

"I have worked with the magnificent Thuli Dumakude for over thirty years, since she played the lead in Poppie Nongena off Broadway many years ago," said producer Eric Krebs in a statement. "When she said to me that she wanted to try to develop a new show with a terrific and multi-talented unknown African singer, I gave her a space to work in and said, 'Go to it.’ The results are a deeply moving performance that is drawing high praise in our workshops."

The Playroom Theater is located at 151 West 46th St., Manhattan. To purchase tickets, $30, visit ThePlayRoomTheater.
