News African Children's Choir Gala, Featuring Performance From Stephanie J. Block, Held Dec. 3 in NYC Stephanie J. Block, who stars in the title role of Broadway's The Mystery of Edwin Drood, performs at the 4th annual NYC African Children's Choir gala, A Celebration of Music — The Holiday Edition, Dec. 3 at the City Winery.

The event begins at 6:30 PM with a wine tasting and reception with Big Kenny, the evening's honoree, who receives the Malaika Award in recognition of his work with schools in the Sudan and Kenya. The show and auction follow at 7:30 PM.

Here's how the event is described: "Straight from their Christmas theatrical tour, the African Children's Choir invites you to share in the spirit of the holiday at their 4th Annual NYC Gala, A Celebration of Music – The Holiday Edition. This exclusive fundraising event promises guests an unforgettable evening that’s sure to lift your spirits while supporting the African Children's Choir as they continue to raise global awareness of the plight of orphaned and abandoned children and the power of an education."

Connie Britton and Carla Gugino host. This year, a portion of proceeds will support local NYC Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.

Block received Drama Desk Award nominations for her work in 9 to 5 and By the Way, Meet Vera Stark. She has also appeared in The Boy From Oz, Wicked, The Pirate Queen and Anything Goes.
