Director Walter Bobbie's production of Irving Berlin's White Christmas is back on Broadway for a second straight seasonal siege. But he will be changing his tune quick enough.

"In mid-December, right after I finish White Christmas," he said, "I'll start rehearsing a two-character play by David Ives called Venus in Fur. We're doing it at Classic Stage Company [Jan. 13- Feb. 21, 2010] where we did his Spinoza play, New Jersusalem."

Bobbie revealed, "I have cast a wonderful young lady — I think she's a new star — her name is Nina Arianda, right out of NYU Tisch."

The play, based on one of literature's most infamous erotic novels, does not include songs by Irving Berlin, though "Let Yourself Go" would seem to fit. Bobbie's associate director, Marc Bruni, who helped launch the tour of Broadway productions of White Christmas, won’t be making this new wild ride.

"Marc," said Bobbie, "just directed Ordinary Days down in The Black Box [i.e., a 62-seat theatre in the cellar of Roundabout's Laura Pels Theatre], and he's doing his first Encores! this year — Fanny. When people call me and ask me to do jobs I can't do, I say, 'Call Marc.' He's about to have his own spectacular career. He's very gifted, and I'm about to lose him as an associate, but it's time for him to take flight. Marc Bruni — remember that name. He wanted my job, and he just got it."
