News Agnew, Greer, Forbes and More Cast in Guthrie's Secret Fall of Constance Wilde Casting has been announced for the Guthrie's upcoming production of The Secret Fall of Constance Wilde, which will begin previews on the Guthrie's McGuire Proscenium Stage May 31.

Thomas Kilroy's drama will officially open at the Guthrie June 6 and play a limited engagement through July 11. Marcela Lorca directs.

The cast will boast Sarah Agnew in the title role with Matthew Greer as Oscar Wilde.

Using puppets — brought to life by Lauren Asheim, Dieter Bierbrauer, Tyson Forbes and Elizabeth Grullon — the play "examines the woman central to one of the most prominent, prolific and controversial voices in literature, bringing humanity to a search for the honor, truth and peace found in her closure."

Two live musicians — Andrew Cooke (piano/music director) and Diane Tremaine (cello) — will join the ensemble onstage.

"As Constance and Oscar near the end of their lives," press notes state, "they step into the mystical darkness where masked figures take them on a journey to revisit their past. From their courtship and marriage, to the arrival of their two children and introduction of Lord Douglas, Oscar's hypnotic personality binds Constance to the famous playwright. Faced with his 'gross indecency,' and torn between protecting her children and her wifely duty to her husband, she flees the country. Even abroad, the chains binding them and their history cannot be broken, ultimately revealing long held secrets about Constance's past." The artistic team also includes Tony Fanning (set designer), Paul Tazewell (costume and puppet designer), Jane Cox (lighting designer), Scott W. Edwards (sound designer), Michael Lupu (dramaturgy), Eliza Carlson (voice and speech coach), Martha Kulig (stage manager), Noah Bremer (assistant director) and Amy Monroe (assistant stage manager).

The Secret Fall of Constance Wilde contains nudity.

The Guthrie is located at 818 South 2nd Street (at Chicago Avenue), in downtown Minneapolis. Tickets, priced $24-$69, are available by calling (877) 44-STAGE or by visiting www.guthrietheater.org.
