After a season at The Ruth Escobar Theatre in Sao Paulo (from Nov.1996 - Jan.1997), the musical monologue Ailce´s List, by Herbert de Souza returns to the stage, now at The Sesi Theatre in Rio de Janeiro. It opened March 6, and is directed once again by Elias Andreato.
Based on the book with the same name Ailce´s List is an actual list constructed by de Souza's cousin Ailce, of relatives and close friends of the author not long before his death.
Despite this melancholy theme, Andreato successfully brings to the stage the memories of de Souza, recreating the charismatic characters mentioned in the book with sagacity and humor.
Brazilian sociologist de Souza is best remembered for a campaign he launched in 1993 to fight hunger, called Citizens Action Against Misery which led to his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize a year later. He was a hemophiliac and died in August 1997 of liver failure associated with AIDS.
Ailce´s List stars again, the young actor Angelo Antonio, well known for his romantic roles in famous Brazilian soap operas. This show incorporates songs by Chico Buarque de Holanda, Joao Bosco and Aldir Blanc. Tickets cost R$12,00. Performances are from Thursdays to Sundays, 7:30 PM; Saturdays, 9 PM. Information at The Sesi Theatre, 19 Tiradentes Square - Downtown - Rio de Janeiro. Phone Number 021 533 3495.
