News Aizawa, Gianino, Nelis and Webber Set for Woolf's Freshwater Off-Broadway Complete casting and creative duties have been announced for Virginia Woolf's Freshwater, which will kick off the New Year at the Women's Project.

A collaboration between the Women's Project and Anne Bogart's SITI Company, the engagement marks the U.S. professional premiere of Woolf's comedy. Performances will begin Jan. 15, 2009 and will continue through Feb. 15. 2009. An official opening is set for Jan. 25, 2009.

Bogart stages the 1923 work, which is described as "a theatrical escapade set in a Victorian garden on a summer evening. Woolf, who wrote this play for friends and family, creates a deliberately witty and wacky universe peopled with a tribe of artists, friends and lovers in a playful mood."

"The characters in Freshwater - Julia Cameron, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Ellen Terry and the others - had tremendous significance for the Bloomsbury Group, of which Woolf was a founding member," Bogart said in a statement. "In this production, our challenge will be to channel the humor, intelligence, talent and giddiness of the original Bloomsbury group and deliver it to a 2009 audience."

The cast includes Akiko Aizawa (Hotel Cassiopeia), Gian-Murray Gianino (Paradise Park), Ellen Lauren (Who Do You Think You Are), Kelly Maurer (Radio Macbeth), Tom Nelis (Iphegenia 2.0), Barney O'Hanlon (Who Do You Think You Are) and Stephen Duff Webber (Radio Macbeth).

Freshwater has designs by James Schuette (sets and costumes), Brian H. Scott (lights) and Darron L West (sound). For tickets phone (212) 239-6200 or visit Telecharge.com.
