Classic Arts Features Alan Gilbert Announces 2009-2010 NY Philharmonic Season; Full Webcast Video Available Alan Gilbert took the stage of Avery Fisher Hall Jan. 12 to announce his Inaugural 2009-2010 Season. Among those who joined him were Composer-in-Residence Magnus Lindberg and new radio host Alec Baldwin. The full press conference is available online via webcast.


The New York Philharmonic's 168th Season will have its Gala Opening Night on Sept. 16. The program will feature a world premiere by Magnus Lindberg and Renee Fleming singing Messiaen's Poemes pour Mi.

Other season highlights will include the New York Premiere of Ligeti's opera, Le Grande Macabre directed by Douglas Fitch; an All-American New Year's Eve Gala; performances of Mahler's Symphony No. 3; HK Gruber's Aerial; Schoenberg's Pelleas and Melisande; Beethoven's Missa solemnis; six "School Day" Concerts; a Carnegie Hall Concert; and chamber music performances.

Audiences can also expect to see Vladimir Jurowski's conducting debut by - leading Zemlinsky's Lyric Symphony. Returning conductors to include Kurt Masur, Riccardo Muti, Antonio Pappano, Helmuth Rilling, David Robertson, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Xian Zhang.

Gilbert will lead the Philharmonic on an early 2010 Asian tour that includes the orchestra's Vietnam debut at the Hanoi Opera House.

Additionally, Emmy-winning actor Alec Baldwin has been announced as the new host for the Philharmonic's national radio broadcasts .
