Classic Arts News Albany Symphony Commissions 25 Works to Mark 75th Anniversary The Albany Symphony will mark its 75th anniversary next season with 25 world premieres commissioned from contemporary American composers including John Harbison and Michael Torke.
The newly commissioned works include eight full-length orchestral works: Harbison's Canonical: American Songbook, Torke's My Father's Waltz, and pieces by Dorothy Chang, Carolyn, Yarnell, Stephen Dankner, Michael Woods, Bun Ching Lan, and Peter Child.

In addition, the orchestra will premiere seven arrangements of spirituals for chamber orchestra, and its new-music group Dogs of Desire will play eight new works.

Other season highlights include performances by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, bassist Edgar Meyer, violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, and pianist Yefim Bronfman.
