My Paris, which will be led by director and choreographer Marshall, replaces the previously announced Shining City. Performances will begin May 4, 2016, with an official opening night set for May 11. The engagement is scheduled to run through May 29.
According to production notes, My Paris examines the life and times of legendary French painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. "Toulouse-Lautrec lovingly rendered the gaiety, color, and heartbreak of Montmartre, Le Can Can, and the world of Le Moulin Rouge," states the description. "It’s the story of a great artist that loved a world that never quite loved him back."
Aznavour wrote the music and lyrics for the new musical, which originated at The Norma Terris Theater in Chester in July. It features English lyrics and musical adaptations by Brown (The Last Five Years).
"The creative team is among the most accomplished which we’ve had the opportunity to work with. I am certain it will be an exciting production," Long Wharf artistic director Gordon Edelstein commented in a press release. "I’ve found a musical that I believe will be an event, a joyous celebration of life, love, and art."
