Tea Alagic directs the world premiere dark comedy penned by Romanian television news journalist Stanescu. Aliens with Extraordinary Skills began previews Sept. 22 and runs though Oct. 26.
Aliens features Shirine Babb (Omnium Gatherum), Seth Fisher (Rock 'n' Roll), Gian-Murray Gianino (Paradise Park), Kevin Isola (Brooklyn Boy), Natalia Payne (New Jerusalem) and Jessica Pimentel (Anna in the Tropics).
Aliens with Extraordinary Skills, according to press notes, centers on "a clown from the unhappiest country in the world, Moldova, who pins her hopes on a U.S. work visa by creating balloon animals. Chased by Homeland Security, a deportation letter deflates her enthusiasm, and a pair of spike heels might be all it takes to burst her American Dream."
"So I had to start from the scratch over here, in my 30s," Stanescu said in a statement. "I had to live in small dorms with a shared bathroom placed far away on the other side of the floor at International House, I had to work hard on my English language. But it is extremely important for me to tell my dramatic stories in American-English, to reach larger audiences, to make my voice really heard by the world."
Designing the production are by Kris Stone (set design), Jennifer Moeller (costume design), Gina Scherr (lighting design) and Sarah Pickett (sound design and original music). For tickets phone (212) 239-6200 or visit Telecharge.com.
