News Alison Fraser and Urinetown's Creek to Star in Reading of New Musical Emoh Ruo Dean Bryant and Mathew Frank, the Melbourne-based creators of Prodigal, will offer a reading of their new musical Sept. 28 at the York Theatre.

Entitled Emoh Ruo (our home spelled backwards), the musical concerns a decade in the life of the Macphersons, an Australian family. A release explains, "This new musical explores the family's efforts to reconcile with each other and the past, a resolution made difficult by the lies, stories and myths they have grown into believing." The cast of the reading stars Romance, Romance Tony nominee Alison Fraser as the mother, Claire. Others in the reading include Urinetown's Luther Creek and Amanda Watkins as well as Garrett Long and Darren Ritchie. Sheryl Kaller directs with musical direction by Fred Lassen.

It's an especially busy time for composers Bryant and Frank, whose other new musical piece, Virgins Etc. received a closed reading last week in Melbourne. Their short musical Jumpin' the Q, a recent winner of the Write Now! Competition, will be staged in Sydney in November. And, the cast recording of Prodigal — featuring Kerry Butler, Christian Borle, Josh Park, David Hess and Alison Fraser — is available on Jay Records.

The York Theatre Company is located at The Theatre at Saint Peter's, 619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street. Those who wish to attend the free reading, should email [email protected] or call (212) 935-5824, ext. 24.
