In addition to writing and directing, Allen also plans to appear in the motion picture alongside a cast that also includes Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penelope Cruz, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page.
Antonio Albanese, Fabio Armiliata, Alessandra Mastronardi, Ornella Muti, Flavio Parenti, Riccardo Scamarcio and Alessandro Tiberi are set to co-star in the film that begins production July 11 in Rome.
"The Bop Decameron" will be a contemporary spin on Giovanni Boccaccio’s medieval tale "The Decameron," a collection of erotic love stories, which has inspired a number of previous film adaptations. Allen's project will be a Gravier Productions film produced by Letty Aronson and Stephen Tenenbaum.
