News Alive! Musical Celebrates the Talents of Over-55 Performers in Harlem Tonight The creators of the musical Mama, I Want To Sing! and its sequels are planning a return engagement of another of their musical shows, Alive!, which showcases the talents of performers 55 and older. Performances begin tonight, April 11, at The Dempsey Theater in Harlem (127 West 127th Street, between Lenox and Seventh Avenues) in New York.

Conceived and written by Vy Higginsen and Ken Wydro, and directed by Wydro, Alive! features 18 “real people, telling real stories," according to a statement, "everyday, ordinary citizens from all walks of life," including "people with amazing talent who never realized their desire to perform live."

The A Chorus Line-like show introduces each of the veteran performers. They tell their story and perform familiar pop, gospel, jazz and R&B songs that they have always dreamed of performing.

Alive! premiered a year ago. The cast of this return production includes Deborah Bingham, Donna Love Brown, Matthew Brown, Matthew Burke, Robin Campos, Robin Crudup, Gladys DeJesus Mitchell, Darlene Eklou, Phyllis Harris, Theo Harris, Susie Jones, Sharon Patrick, Roberta Ross, Ricardo Vega and Renee Walker. The show has music direction by Greg Kelly and is choreographed by Kadeem Alston-Roman, with additional choreography by Ryan Baker.

Proceeds from the production benefit The Mama Foundation for the Arts, a cultural space in Harlem.

Alive! will be performed Saturday afternoons at 4 PM April 11-July 25. There are additional 7:30 PM Saturday performances April 18 and June 27. There will be no performances May 30, June 20, July 4 and July 11.

Tickets can be ordered by calling (212) 280-1045 or through SmartTix.com. Tickets cost $35 for general seating, $45 for front orchestra and $65 for premium seats.
