News All Hail the Queen: Toronto's We Will Rock You Extends into Summer The Toronto staging of the Queen-scored, Ben Elton-penned musical We Will Rock You has announced a second extension.

Elton directs the London hit musical, which began previews March 14 and opened April 10. Canadian producers David and Ed Mirvish present the work at the Canon Theatre. Now added are six more weeks through July 8.

"Audiences are responding to We Will Rock You," said producer David Mirvish in an announcement. "They are absolutely loving it. They are laughing, they are singing and they are giving standing ovation after ovation. The people have spoken and they want more We Will Rock You."

"Set 300 years in the future, in a time when live music is banned on earth, We Will Rock You is about the kids who are in rebellion, fighting against the all-powerful Globalsoft Corporation that controls their lives and feeds them a diet of synthesized pop," according to the producers. "Could the young Galileo and Scaramouche be the heroes needed who will help them 'break free' of their chains to rediscover themselves and live music?" With Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor as music supervisors, We Will Rock You is written and directed by Ben Elton ("The Young Ones," "Blackadder," The Beautiful Game and Popcorn) and features 32 of Queen's greatest hits.

Yvan Pedneault is the young Galileo, "the dreamer" who takes on the mighty Globalsoft corporation on his quest to re-ignite the power of live rock and roll; Erica Peck is Scaramouche, who stands alongside Galileo in the fight against Globalsoft; Alana Bridgewater is Killer Queen, the cold-hearted boss of Globalsoft; and Evan Buliung is silver-tongued, Armani-suited Khashoggi, the Killer Queen's henchman.

Jack Langedijk is Pop, the hippy librarian who knows the secrets of the "texts" and leads Galileo and the rebels to the Place of Champions where the Mighty Queen's musical weapons are buried; Sterling Jarvis is badass Britney, the Bohemian who leads the rebels in their fight against the corporation; Suzie McNeil is Oz, the rock chick rebel with a killer voice and an attitude to match; Danny Balkwill is Big Macca; and Jewelle Blackman is Teacher.

The ensemble includes Matt Alfano, Breanne Arrigo, Adam Bolton, Nicole Bourgeois, Lindsay Croxall, Peter Deiwick, Kelly-Ann Evans, Kelly Fletcher, Brittany Gray, Deidrea Halley, Bryan Hindle, Melanie McInenly, Lindsay Owen Pierre, Jesse Robb, Talia Schlanger, Jason Sermonia, Valarie Stanois, Sam Strasfeld, Darren Voros and Scott Walters.

There are 32 musical numbers in We Will Rock You, however some are reprised or sung by a different characters, thus there are 27 different Queen songs that comprise the show. They are:

Mark Fisher, production designer, and Willie Williams, lighting designer, have created set designs for Pink Floyd, Janet Jackson, The Rolling Stones and U2. Tim Goodchild is costume designer and Arlene Phillips (Starlight Express, Grease and Saturday Night Fever) is choreographer. Bobby Aitken (The Boyfriend, The Fix, Return to the Forbidden Planet, Grease and Mamma Mia!) is sound designer.

We Will Rock You is produced by David and Ed Mirvish and The Kimsa Group, in association with Queen Theatrical Productions, Phil McIntyre Entertainment and Tribeca Theatrical Productions.

The show continues to run in London after four years and productions have also been seen in Australia, Spain, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, Germany and Japan.
