The revolving door at Broadway's Chicago continues to spin to the beat of Kander and Ebb's wicked jazz score, and coming through the portal Sept. 5 is Jasmine Guy, taking on the role of Velma Kelly.
Guy, a song-and-dance vet from Chicago's national tour and Las Vegas sitdown, might be most widely known as Whitley from the TV sitcom, "A Different World." She began her theatre career with the Alvin Ailey Dance Center and appeared in productions of Grease!, Leader of the Pack, The Wiz, Dancin' in the Street and Bubbling Brown Sugar.
Guy will miss scattered performances in the first few weeks of September due her filming of the Showtime movie, "The Feast of All Saints," but will appear in Chicago -- singing "All That Jazz" -- on weekend performances, a spokesman said.
Charlotte d'Amboise continues in the role of Roxie Hart in the smash revival of the 1975 musical comedy about getting away with murder in 1920s Chicago. Performances are at the Shubert Theatre.
