Paula Prentiss will play the Linda Lavin role in the Cape Playhouse production of Charles Busch's The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, which plays Aug. 12-24. The Dennis, MA, staging is the regional premiere of the comedy.

Prentiss has starred in such films as "What's New Pussycat," "Catch-22" and "The Parallax View." Her stage appearances have been few, but she did star opposite husband Richard Benjamin in Off-Broadway's Power Plays. She also starred with Benjamin on Broadway in Alan Ayckbourn's The Norman Conquests in the 1970's.

Co-starring will be David Hedison and Marj Dusay, in the roles created by Tony Roberts and Michele Lee on Broadway.

Opening at the Playhouse on July 29 is the Gershwin musical My One and Only with John Scherer and Jeanna Scheweppe. Later on, the WWII revue Swingtime Canteen will arrive (Aug. 26-Sept. 7) followed by oldfriends.com (Sept. 10-15) by Cape Cod playwright Marcia J. Monbleau.

The last is a rare world premiere for the Cape Playhouse. oldfriends.com is a modern spin on plays like Love Letters and 84 Charing Cross Road, with two friends corresponding across the Atlantic and across the years through e-mails. The show will have a future beyond its Dennis staging. For ticket information, call (508) 385-3911.
