News Altovise Joanne Gore Davis, Widow of Sammy Davis, Jr., Dies Altovise Joanne Gore Davis, a dancer and actress and the widow of Sammy Davis Jr., died March 14 in Los Angeles after suffering a stroke, Variety reported. She was 65.

As Altovise Gore, she danced on Broadway during the 1960s in Kwamina, High Spirits, Guys and Dolls (the 1965 revival), and acted in Pousse-Café and Sherry!. According to Variety, she met the Sammy Davis when they performed together in the musical Golden Boy, in which Davis starred. They married in 1970 and remained together until his death in 1990.

Davis' death left her with many troubles, including the entertainer's multi-million dollar IRS tax debt.

She is survived by her son Manny.
