News Alyse Alan Louis, Janet Dickinson, Rosemary Loar and More Set for Spoolie Girl Musical Musical Mondays Theater Lab, Inc. will present the premiere of Spoolie Girl, the organization's second new musical preview of the fall 2011-12 season, Nov. 17 at the Jerry Orbach Theater in the Snapple Theater Center.

Directed by Karen Carpenter with musical direction by John DiPinto, the 6:30 PM performance will feature a cast that includes Alyse Alan Louis (Mamma Mia!) as Spoolie Girl, Janet Dickinson (9 to 5) as Darla, Rosemary Loar (Once Upon a Mattress) as Fairy Rock Mother, Lennie Watts as Delta Pink, Raissa Katona Bennett (The Phantom of the Opera), Glenn Turner (Five Guys Named Mo), Jacob Richard and Andrew Deichman.

Spoolie Girl is an original pop-rock musical featuring a score by Loar, who also co-wrote the book with Robert W. Atwood.

The musical, according to press notes, "tells the story of a displaced 16-year-old orphan who was raised on a church mission in Kenya and then finds herself thrown into the frantic world of New York City high fashion. Her new support group becomes a Fascist Fashionista, a Fairy Rock Mother (like a fairy god mother but way hipper), and a neighbor who walks an invisible dog. The magic happens when Spoolie Girl discovers that she can hear other people’s thoughts broadcast to her as songs."

Musical Mondays Theatre Lab, under the artistic direction of Bick Goss and Frank Evans, is celebrating its 13th year presenting a first look at new musicals at the Snapple Theater Center. Writers whose early work debuted at Musical Mondays include Tony winners Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx (Avenue Q); Tony and Pulitzer Prize winners Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt (Next to Normal); Drama Desk nominee Eric Weinberger and Kleban Prize winner Beth Falcone (Wanda’s World); and Outer Critics Award winner Andy Monroe (The Kid). Last spring, Musical Mondays presented a reading of The Fartiste, now appearing Off-Broadway at Sofia’s Downstairs Theater.

The Snapple Theater Center is located at 210 West 50th Street. For more information and to make a reservation, call (212) 989-6706 or email [email protected].
