News Amadeus Opens at East London's Wilton's Music Hall Sept. 18 John Doyle's new musical version of Peter Shaffer's Amadeus opens at Wilton's Music Hall Sep. 18 in London’s East End.

Director/designer Doyle won a 2006 Tony for Best Director of a Musical with his production of Sweeney Todd. Like that show, and the more recent Mack and Mabel — which starred Janie Dee and David Soul —Amadeus features an ensemble cast of actor-musicians.

The Olivier Award-winning Matthew Kelly (Of Mice and Men) takes on the lead role of the Austrian Court composer Salieri.

The cast also features Jonathan Broadbent as Mozart, Jess Murphy as Constanze, Eamonn O’Dwyer, Sebastian Bates, Sam Kenyon, Philip Battley, Harry Napier, Michael Howcroft, Susannah Van Den Berg, Elisa Boyd, Sioned Saunders, Michael George Moore, Benedict James and Juliet Leighton-Jones.

Built in the mid-19th century Wilton’s Music Hall is the last surviving venue of its type, originally hosting classical overtures, opera and operetta before popular "music hall" entertainment evolved.

It was here that Amadeus producer Adam Spiegel first staged his acclaimed production of The Mysteries before it transferred to the West End in 2002. For more on Amadeus, which is booking until Oct. 14, call (0)870 060 1756.
