The Anton Chekhov classic is a co-production with the McCarter Theatre and is directed and newly adapted by the New Jersey venue's artistic director Emily Mann. Uncle Vanya tells the story of a retired scholar who returns home with his wife and throws his family's lives into disarray. Plummer — who plays Sonya in the staging — is known for her off-kilter film portrayals in "Pulp Fiction," "So I Married an Axe Murderer" and "The Fisher King." The actress has been nominated for a Tony in the Broadway productions of A Taste of Honey, Pygmalion and Agnes of God — winning for the latter.

Steven Skybell (The Full Monty, Love! Valour! Compassion!) plays the title role with a cast that includes Georgine Hall (Present Laughter, 'night, Mother) as Maria, Jonathan Hogan (As Is, Burn This) as Telegin, William Biff McGuire (South Pacific, A View From the Bridge) as the Professor, Natacha Roi (Closer, Wait Until Dark) as Yelena, Michael Siberry (The Merchant of Venice, The Sound of Music) as Astrov and Isa Thomas (Waiting in the Wings, Lost in Yonkers) as Marina.

The design team includes Michael Yeargan (set), Nancy Schertler (lighting) and Myung Hee Cho (costume). The production also features original music by Baikida Carroll.
