American Movie Classics cable channel will focus on musicals in its fourth annual "Film Preservation Festival" June 30 to July 5.

The festival will climax July 4-5 with a 30-plus hour marathon of six Rodgers and Hammerstein film musicals, most of them adapted from the team's stage shows. Each will be shown twice.

On other days, the AMC festival will draw on the work of classic stage composers, including George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin and others, charting a history of the film musical form.

The 1945 film version of State Fair will be shown at 2 AM and 5:30 PM July 4; Oklahoma!, in CinemaScope at 5:45 AM and Todd-AO at 7:10 PM; Carousel at 6:15 AM an 9:45 PM; the King and I at 8:30 AM and midnight; South Pacific at 10:45 AM July 4 and 2:10 AM July 5; and Flower Drum Song at 1:30 AM and 5 AM July 5. All times are Eastern Time; check local listings for times elsewhere.

In addition the 90-minute documentary The Sound of American Music, charting the careers of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, will be shown at 3:45 PM. The series also will feature newly restored versions of two Beatles musicals, A Hard Day's Night and Help!.
