American Premiere of Calendar Girls Will Be Presented In Georgia | Playbill

News American Premiere of Calendar Girls Will Be Presented In Georgia Tim Firth's Calendar Girls will open Georgia Ensemble Theatre's 2015-16 season Sept. 10. This will be the first time the popular British play is performed in the United States.

Calendar Girls tells the story of Annie, who, after losing her husband to leukemia, decides to raise money to benefit the local hospital by printing a calendar featuring nude photos of herself and members of her ladies' club.

The production will star Heidi Cline McKerley as Annie. She will be joined by Courtenay Collins, Jennifer Levison and others.

McKerley said in a statement, "This is a play about friendship. About the friendship between women, the resilience of the human spirit and what we do for love." Artistic director Bob Farley added, "I don't think I've ever experienced a contemporary play that is as much about empowerment as Calendar Girls."

According to Farley, it took five years to obtain the rights for the show. The run of the show has already been extended through Oct. 4.

Georgia Ensemble Theatre will host special events in collaboration with the show, including post-show discussions with medical experts from Piedmont Cancer Center and a calendar sale, featuring shots of the production's actresses.

A portion of proceeds from the calendars will benefit The Thomas F. Chapman Family Cancer Wellness Center at Piedmont Cancer Center.
