News American Psycho Delays Opening By One Day The official press opening has been pushed back to April 21; previews will still begin as scheduled.

The new musical American Psycho, which is based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, will open on Broadway one day later than previously announced. The new work will now officially open April 21 at Broadway's Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre; previews will still begin as scheduled March 24.

American Psycho has music and lyrics by Tony and Grammy Award winner Duncan Sheik and a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Directed by Olivier Award winner Rupert Goold, the new musical has choreography by Tony Award nominee Lynne Page.

Benjamin Walker is set to star in the lead role of Patrick Bateman. Walker will be joined by Tony winner Alice Ripley as Patrick’s Mother/Mrs. Wolfe; Heléne Yorke as Evelyn Williams, Patrick’s girlfriend; Tony Award nominee Jennifer Damiano as Jean, Patrick’s secretary; Drew Moerlein as Paul Owen; Krystina Alabado as Vandan; Dave Thomas Brown as David van Patten; Jordan Dean as Luis Carruthers; Anna Eilinsfeld as Victoria; Jason Hite as Sean Bateman; Ericka Hunter as Sabrina; Holly James (seen in American Psycho's London cast) as Christine; Keith Randolph Smith as Detective Kimball; Alex Michael Stoll as Craig McDermott; and Morgan Weed as Courtney Lawrence. Also featured in the company are Sydney Morton, Anthony Sagaria and Neka Zang.

Set amid the excess of 1980s Manhattan, American Psycho, according to press notes, "tells the story of Patrick Bateman, a young and handsome Wall Street banker who pursues his darkest American dreams. Patrick and his elite group of friends spend their days in exclusive restaurants, hot clubs and luxury labels. But at night, Patrick takes part in a more sinful indulgence, and his mask of sanity is starting to slip…"

The new musical will have scenic design by triple Olivier Award-winning stage designer Es Devlin, lighting design by Obie Award recipient Justin Townsend, video design by Tony Award winner Finn Ross, music direction by Jason Hart and music supervision and vocal arrangements by David Shrubsole. Casting is by Telsey + Company/Craig Burns, CSA.

The production had its world premiere at the Almeida Theatre in London December 2013-February 2014. That sold-out production was presented by The Almeida Theatre and Headlong in association with Act 4 Entertainment (David Johnson and Jesse Singer).
