Facing stiff competition in a season where it had to vie with the likes of Shuffle Along…, Waitress and Hamilton, the show was nominated for only two Tony Awards: lighting (Justin Townsend) and sets (Es Devlin and Finn Ross). It closes a week before the Tony Awards ceremony. Its star, Benjamin Walker, was nominated for Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League awards.

American Psycho set the 7:30 PM performance June 5 as its farewell. The show will have played 27 previews and 54 regular performances at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

It is the second Broadway musical in a week to close after a short run. Tuck Everlasting closed May 29 after 39 performances.

American Psycho is also the second show of the season for Grammy Award-winning composer Duncan Sheik, whose Tony winner, Spring Awakening, was revived last fall. American Psycho has a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Supergirl, Looking, Glee), direction by Tony nominee and Olivier Award winner Rupert Goold (King Charles III), and choreography by Tony nominee Lynne Page (La Cage Aux Folles).

Based on the best-selling novel by Bret Easton Ellis (which celebrated the 25th anniversary of its publication this spring), American Psycho tells the story of a young Wall Street banker who pursues every kind of material indulgence during the day, but who turns into an obsessed killer by night.

Joining Walker in the cast are Heléne Yorke (Bullets Over Broadway, Masters of Sex), Tony Award winner Alice Ripley (Next to Normal), Jennifer Damiano (Next to Normal) and Drew Moerlein.

Also featured are Krystina Alabado, Dave Thomas Brown (The Legend of Georgia McBride), Jordan Dean (Shows For Days), Anna Eilinsfeld (Kinky Boots, Wicked), Jason Hite (Bare), Ericka Hunter (Rock of Ages), Holly James, Keith Randolph Smith (Fences, King Hedley II), Theo Stockman (American Idiot, Hair), Alex Michael Stoll (West Side Story, Evita, If/Then), and Morgan Weed (Next to Normal, Saved). Also featured in the company are Brandon Kalm (American Idiot tour), Sydney Morton (Memphis, Evita, Motown), Anthony Sagaria (The Bad Years) and Neka Zang (Rock of Ages).
