Variety reports that Somlyo, a long-time producer of the Wing's annual Tony Awards telecast, will work on this year's Drama Desk Awards ceremony, which will take place May 16 at the LaGuardia Concert Hall. For a few years, the Drama Desk Awards were broadcast locally on NY-1, but last year they were presented on-line at theatermania.com. That site will also offer a webcast this season. Somlyo told the industry paper that NYC-TV and Los Angeles' Channel 36 will present delayed airings of the 2004 Drama Desk Awards. Nominations for this year's awards will be announced at the New York Friars Club on April 29.

Roy Somlyo came to the American Theatre Wing in 1998 after a career in theatre and television, which included producing or managing more than 100 Broadway and touring shows. He served as Wing president for five years. Somlyo has also worked, often as a producer, on the American Theatre Wing’s annual Tony Awards since the first network telecast in 1967.
