Broadway News Anastasia Opens on Broadway April 24 The new stage musical based on the 1997 animated film stars Christy Altomare, Ramin Karimloo, and Derek Klena.

Anastasia, the new stage musical based on the 1997 animated film, officially opens on Broadway April 24 at the Broadhurst Theatre. Previews began March 23. To purchase tickets, click here.

The expanded stage production features a score by Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and an all-new book by Tony winner Terrence McNally.

The Broadway production features Christy Altomare as Anya, Derek Klena as Dmitry, John Bolton as Vlad, Caroline O’Connor as Lily, Ramin Karimloo as Gleb, and Mary Beth Peil as Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna.

Completing the cast are Zach Adkins, Sissy Bell, Lauren Blackman, Kathryn Boswell, Kyle Brown, Kristen Smith Davis, Janet Dickinson, Constantine Germanacos, Wes Hart, Ian Knauer, Ken Krugman, Dustin Layton, Shina Ann Morris, James A. Tony Award winner Darko Tresnjak (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder) directs Anastasia, which features choreography by Peggy Hickey.

The creative team includes Alexander Dodge (set design), Linda Cho (costume design), Donald Holder (lighting design), Peter Hylenski (sound design), Aaron Rhyne (projection design), Charles G. LaPointe (hair/wig design), Joe Dulude II (makeup design), Thomas Murray (music supervision and direction), Doug Besterman (orchestrations), David Chase (dance arranger), and casting by Telsey + Company/Craig Burns, CSA. The stage production was originally commissioned by Dmitry Bogachev. Eric Cornell serves as executive producer.

Here’s how it’s billed: “This dazzling show transports us from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920’s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing con man and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love and family.”
