Film & TV News Andréa Burns Joins West Side Story Movie The stage veteran, who began her career playing Maria, returns to the title in a new role for the screen.

Andréa Burns is the latest stage favorite to join the cast of Steven Spielberg's West Side Story movie. She'll play Fausta, a role new to the musical.

The movie, currently filming in New York City, is slated to arrive in theatres December 18, 2020.

Burns, most recently seen on Broadway in the Gloria Estefan bio-musical On Your Feet!, got her professional start playing Maria in West Side Story, touring various European opera houses. Her additional credits include In the Heights (a screen adaptation of which is also in production), The Nance, and The Ritz. She also recently appeared in the Encores! Off-Center presentation of Working.

Ansel Elgort and newcomer Rachel Zegler will star as star-crossed Tony and Maria, with Tony nominee Ariana DeBose as Anita, David Alvarez as Bernardo, Josh Andrés Rivera as Chino, Tony nominee Brian d’Arcy James as Officer Krupke, Corey Stoll as Lietenant Schrank, Tony nominee Mike Faist as Riff, and EGOT winner and star of the original film Rita Moreno, who’ll play the newly created Valentina.

A host of Broadway alumni help fill out the cast, including Paloma Garcia-Lee, David and Jacob Guzman, Ricky Ubeda, Ben Cook, Sara Esty, Garett Hawe, Tanairi Vazquez, Eloise Kropp, and Jess LeProtto.
