With appearances at New York's Public Theatre, Montreal's "Just For Laughs" Festival and Toronto's Bluma Appel Theatre already under her, um, belt, Andrea Martin now brings her solo show, Nude Nude Totally Nude -- in which she remains fully clothed -- to Beverly Hills' Canon Theatre for its West Coast premiere.
In the show, Martin plays an array of characters, some of them familiar from her years on Second City Television. Edith Prickley will, of course, make an appearance, as will be a sex therapist with a tic, Ethel Merman belting romantic ballads, and a TV host with menopause. Mixed in with the comic characters will be anecdotes from Martin's own life, including a growing appreciation of her Armenian heritage and her affair with a much younger man.
Martin appeared on Broadway in the musical My Favorite Year, for which she received a Tony, Drama Desk and Theatre World Award. She's scheduled to appear in the upcoming, Harold Prince-directed, Broadway revival of Candide.
Walter Bobbie, currently directing a revival of Kander & Ebb's Chicago on Broadway, directed Nude Nude Totally Nude, which runs through Nov. 10.
