Beginning Jan. 23 in Nashville, Andrea McArdle will assume the role of Sally Bowles in the touring production of Roundabout’s revival of Cabaret.

Producers SFX Theatrical Group, Eric and Scott Nederlander and Jujamcyn Productions, announced today that McArdle will assume the legendary role in Nashville followed by “engagements across the U.S. and Canada as well as the premiere engagement in Tokyo in June 2001. Kate Shindle, Miss America 1998, continues in the Bowles role through Jan. 21.

Known as the original Annie, both on Broadway and in London, Tony nominated McArdle starred as Broadway’s longest running Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast as well as in Les Miserables, Starlight Express and State Fair. In addition to her Tony nomination for Annie, McArdle won Theatre World and Outer Critics Circle Awards for that role. Her stage credits include star turns in Oliver!, Annie Get Your Gun, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jerry’s Girls. McArdle returned to Annie in 1999—singing “N-Y-C” in the Disney film production of the Charles Strouse musical.

As reported earlier, Broadway's fifth longest-running revival, Cabaret passed the 1,000th performance mark on Sept. 14. Directed by Sam Mendes with Rob Marshall, the revival of Cabaret is based on Christopher Isherwood real-life account in “The Berlin Stories.” Cabaret features music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Joe Masteroff. The story takes place in Berlin and involves a British woman’s romance with an American writer at the onset of the Third Reich.

The design team for Cabaret comprises set designer Robert Brill, costume designer William Ivey Long, lighting designers Peggy Eisenhauer and Mike Baldassari) and sound designer Brian Ronan. On Broadway, Cabaret opened March 19, 1998 and went on to win four Tony Awards (including Best Musical Revival), three Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, a Theatre World Award, an Astaire Award and a special award from the New York Drama Critics.
